Man, oh man! My little mister is becoming quite the independent little fella. Well, some of the time. He's still a Momma's boy, but he sure likes his freedom! Don't worry, little man, when we move and Momma can set up a baby-proof house you'll be able to roam mostly free! Grammy's house isn't super baby proof so I either have to chase him around or keep him in his play pen or jumperoo. He's not too thrilled being caged in.
This week Momma had her wisdom teeth out. It went about as well as could be hoped for and baby was fairly cooperative while Momma was healing. Momma still has the teeniest bit of swelling and some minimal pain, but I am able to properly care for Jack and play with him normally again. From everything I read online, the IV sedation I was under is ok to nurse with. For pain meds post surgery I just alternated tylenol and motrion. It worked fine and I was able to nurse. Poor Jack would not have done well if he wasn't able to nurse while Momma recovered. He just doesn't care for bottles. He takes them every once in awhile, but generally it's just wasted milk.
We have done a lot of reading lately. Jack has learned not to crinkle the pages of regular books but he loves to turn the pages on his own for board books. Makes it a little difficult to read, but it is just so darn cute! We will read through 4-6 books in one sitting before he wants to go play! I love that my little mister loves to read, just like his Momma and DaDa.
Jack got a special treat. He saw his Grammie and GrandPops this week! Grammie came into town for a quick weekend because her Mommy isn't doing very well. We enjoyed getting to play with her. GrandPops came in the same day that she left for work for the week. We had lunch with him at Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma's house. We are also going to see them all later this week. It is so nice that Jack has got to spend so much time with all of his grandparents this year. I hope he gets to continue to see them regularly (meaning at least once a year) as he grows. It will be difficult living so far away from both our families, but we have Skype and will make sure to show Jack lots and lots of pictures.
Jack has been chewing on his fingers (and everything else) this week. He is a little more drooly than usual (he's not a very drooly baby on the average day) also. I think he may be getting a few more teeth. I ordered him an amber necklace after numerous recommendations from friends/family. I should get it this week so we'll see if that helps any. Jack had one night where he woke up two times every hour. He would just fuss and not fully wake up. I'm sure it had to do with his teeth. That night was not super fun- but it's all a part of parenting. Having recently had teeth removed I imagine our gums feel pretty similar right now. Poor baby.
Jack continues to crawl, climb, and scoot everywhere! He is one busy little baby! He is so much better at walking with his pushing walker now. He can control where it goes, but hasn't figured out how to turn it around on his own yet. He loves climbing on any obstacles that he encounters. Boxes, chairs, toys, people. He is all boy, that is for sure!
We are so excited to get to see DaDa next week! I think I'll be able to do my weekly post on Monday before we leave to fly down to Georgia for DaDa's graduation. If not, two posts coming up the following week!
Jackson loves his Grammie!
Jack and Scout in their fort/boat/car? Not exactly sure, but it sure is fun!
Peek-a-boo with Grammie! He would look over then under over and over again! Silly baby.
Stinker pants.
46 Weeks picture.
He bit the lid to one of his sippy cups and it went up like that on his face. He thought it was SO funny.
Reading Harold from Uncle Mark.
He's beginning to figure out how to push Scout's buttons on his own now.
Baby tried Cheerios for the first time this week! He loves them! Cheerios are cheaper than Puffs!
Baby tried macaroni and cheese (and peaches on a separate occasion- both with the same result) this week. He liked the taste, but didn't like how squishy it was in his fingers or mouth. He would get frustrated that he couldn't grab it easily and then when he would bite it the piece would fall out of his mouth. All in all, not a big fan yet.
Grammy gave Jack a piece of celery to chew on. He loved it, but when it began breaking apart Momma took it away. Baby did NOT like that! He cried and cried and would not be consoled. His tantrum lasted on about 2 minutes and then he played like normal, but he liked that nice, crunchy, cold celery!
We finally found a sippy cup that Jack likes and that work well. The Tommee Tippee cups have a smaller spout that he likes and still has a gauge so it doesn't spill all over. Bonus, it has a flip cover so you can protect it when he's not drinking! We don't like germies! Jack still doesn't drink a whole lot of water or juice (his choice), but I'm trying to get him to drink a little when he eats baby food so he gets used to the idea.
Sometimes you just need to snuggle with your mom. It was difficult getting a good picture of this at the angle he was sitting. He had scooted himself onto my lap and them snuggled around my arm. Both his arms were around mine. Adorable.
Jack and I do devotions every day. We read out of his Baby Bible and then I let him "read" it while I do my reading. Hopefully as he grows he will help keep me accountable in my devotions.
See those specks on the ground to the left of Jack? Yeah, those are the cucumber pieces he didn't eat. It's not that he wasn't hungry or that he didn't want the cucumber. He just figured out how fun it was to throw them all on the ground! Stinker binker!
I am so thankful for technology. Truly thankful. We can skype with DaDa and text with DaDa. DaDa sent us this picture of him (after I sent him about 10 pictures of us throughout the day) and when Jack saw it he smiled! So I took a picture to show DaDa. On the phone if you click on the picture it shows Jack's full face and is super cute! He remembers and loves his DaDa!
Everything is a jungle gym.
Proof that my child does cry. The story: he was sitting on my lap and we were reading stories. He decided he was done with stories. He began playing with toys so I set him on the ground next to me. I did not move, I did not get up, I did not leave. He kept trying to crawl back on my lap and cried the entire time! Yes, I let him sit on my lap to play after I got this picture. It was just too funny not to document!
Playing with GrandPops this afternoon!
And of course, Jack still loves playing with Toto, Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma's dog.
