Of Moving and Unknowns

Ok (ironic). We are getting ready to move to the great state of OK. I have said before, I don't know hardly anything about Oklahoma. I still don't fully understand exactly where it's located. I have been messaging with a fellow Army wife there currently and there apparently are scorpions. Excellent.

But in all honesty, I am actually excited about this move. To finally get to set up my home. To get Jack set up him his own house- hopefully he will have an actual playroom. To get connected with other army wives. To develop little baby friendships for Jack. And of course, to live with Daddy.

But... the packing, the scheduling of pickup/drop off of our belongings, the funding for the move, finding a home from 1000 miles away (that is a guess)... that does not excite me. But I suppose I should get used to it, right?

I have been looking at rental properties in the area. We figure living off post will be a better option for us if we'll just be there for less than a year. Of course, some of the properties I'm interested in only have 1 year lease options available. We may only be there 6 months... so that won't work. Hopefully we find something with decent space, the right price, and military friendly lease options. I completely understand how difficult it would be to own property and keep it up with people moving in and out every half year. That is why I don't plan on buying a house while we're still moving around every couple years. So basically, we won't own property until we get a permanent duty station (ha ha) or Matt retires. We've discussed the option of the National Guard after his first round of AD, but I don't know how likely I see that option. Finding a place to live without being able to do a walk through will probably be one of my least favorite things to do in the Army. My SIL and her SIL (confusing, I know) have both had rental properties that were fine in and of themselves... but the neighbors weren't too pleasant. Here's hoping my family continues to have lovely neighbors with whom we can build relationships.

Also, today I booked my flights and rental car for Matt's OCS graduation next month! It's so nice to finally have some things settled and not just be waiting around for word on if and when he's graduating.  My in-laws were able to book us (and them) a hotel with some points my FIL accrued. That is amazing. I used kayak.com to book both the airlines and car. I got this recommendation from a friend and used it for my past few trips. So far, it's given me great rates! I was able to save several 100$ from researching different options and travel dates. Definitely nice since all our travel the past three months have been adding up. Not to mention the fact that soon we'll need to furnish our entire house (the only furniture we still own is our king sized bed...). So any and all savings we can find are very welcome.

I booked my flights with AirTran, never used it before. I'll give my opinions on the airline post trip. Delta is currently my favorite airline- I mean, they have the best cookies! U.S. Airways is my least favorite as I am still trying to get a refund that was promised to me by multiple representatives. This was for an incident that happened in October! So we'll see how AirTran's service is. The price and even fees are amazing though. Plus, one of my friends works for them! I booked my car rental through E-Z car rentals. I have always used Enterprise, but normally my old employer would pay for that cost. E-Z had the best price by far so I'm hoping there aren't any issues since I have never used this company. It's out of the Atlanta airport and has good reviews, so I'm not too worried.

Army life is hectic and I don't anticipate it slowing down ever, but it keeps life exciting, right? I am so excited to see my soldier and finally get to live with him again and have a "normal" family life.

Brag moment: So far my husband has aced all his exams in OCS. The two big objectives in OCS are the history test and the Land Nav test. He passed the history test when over half of his class failed. During Land Nav, after one full day of marching around and a very short night of sleep (outside on the ground), he was able to get 7 out of 8 points (I think) in Land Nav with 20 minutes to spare- he needed to get 6 correct points to pass. He had a knee injury and bad blisters from this course, but he was able to recuperate to finish OCS. Now, we are only a few weeks away from his graduation! I am so proud of my 2nd Lieutenant to be!
