Back up back up back up!!!

So I ran out of disc space on my MacBook Pro. I know, I didn't know if could be done either! That is when I realized I had a bunch of my dad's files. So I began going through and dumping them. Checked his pictures, didn't need them. Dumped them. Opened iPhoto... Entire library, gone! Apparently my iPhoto library was saved under his username instead of mine! Insert dropped jaw and inability to think or act. Yes, I had already emptied my trash.

Thankfully, I use BackBlaze to backup my computer. Suddenly $95 for two years seems a very small price to pay if that means getting all of Jackson's pictures and videos back. Yes, I have put some on Facebook, but there were many more. I can't download videos off Facebook anyways. So I have requested a Zip drive of all the pictures under my dad's username. I will have to sort through them, but that is a very, very small price to pay.

The first download wasn't successful so I'm attempting it again. It takes about 2 days for the zip file to load. Praying that it works and all my pictures and videos are available again! I will be purchasing an external hard drive as soon as I get them back on my computer. BackBlaze is great, but I couldn't figure out if what I requested was the right pictures or not. So I'm hoping they are.

At first I was too shocked to even be thoroughly angry at myself. I couldn't cry. I could only sort through my computer refusing to believe the pictures were actually gone. Today I cried. I was emotional throughout the day as I looked through Facebook albums and sorted through a secondary program I ran that showed files that could be recovered. Just in case BackBlaze doesn't work (which it better because that's why I'm paying for it!). I saw pictures of my baby and it made me so upset that I possibly lost them forever.

I believe that I will get them all back since that is the purpose of BackBlaze. But a small part of me still fears that I made a huge mistake that can't be fixed. Once my pictures are back I'll use an external hard drive just for pictures, I'll work hard on Jackson's photo album so I can print it and have it saved online. I will never be afraid of posting too many pictures on Facebook again! I'd rather have them there in case something like this happens then not available at all.

Back up back up and back up some more!
