With Jackson I brought more to the hospital than I needed, but it was good to be prepared! I packed all the baby items in the diaper bag because I was so excited to use it. I decided just to use a tote bag (this one was handmade by one of my oldest friends and given to me for a baby shower gift with Jackson! It is reversible with different patterns on either side and has six pockets on the side I choose to have in the outside that perfectly fit bottles or hold keys etc. I love this bag because it was so thoughtful and unique) this time as I don't need the attached changing pad on our diaper bag. I plan to have one satchel bag for myself and this tote for Daniel.
The hospital will have all the diapers and wipes you need. They will have basic onesies and blankets. Probably some samples of a few different ointments or lotions. You don't really need much for the baby, but I like to bring some items to make the experience more personalized. I packed one aden and anais swaddling blanket and one snuggly blanket in case the room is chilly. I packed three little hats- depending on my mood and what I want him to wear. One will definitely be his coming home hat though. I packed one pair of little blue socks in case his feet are cold and his little white bear booties, also for the trip home. I packed two sets of mitties so he doesn't scratch his face- two because he may spit up on a pair (or both). I also am packing one paci- not sure if he'll use it in the hospital, but good to have just in case. The hospital will have Pacis, but I like these natural rubber ones. I also am bringing my nursing cover- may not use it since the nurses like to make sure you have a proper latch, but good to have just in case.
Clothes: as stated, the hospital will have onesies, but they are usually plain white and not that cute. If you are like me, then you'll be taking lots of pictures of your little one so cute onesies are a must! I am unsure how long this hospital wants moms to stay, but I am preparing for 2 days. I packed two basic onesies- again, in case he spits up on one (which Jackson did). I packed one sleeper, a cozy one so he'll be warm. His going home outfit is a cute navy and white striped polo onesie, navy pants, and a striped hoodie. Want him to look cute but still be comfy! I chose a short sleeved onesie with a sweatshirt over top since I'm not sure what the weather is like here in late April.
I also am packing a bunting banner that says "It's A Boy" to hang in our recovery room. We got so many compliments on it from Jackson's hospital stay. Might as well get some more use out of it! Then the last item in the baby bag is Daniel's notebook. This is where I will keep track of his feedings and sleep schedule and milestones. I don't do typical baby books, but make photo books and include milestones there. So this notebook will help keep everything straight.
I may bring one of his stuffed animals to put in his bassinet too, but probably not. That is a popular item to bring to the hospital, though. But there's my baby bag for the hospital. That only takes up about half the tote bag so there's room to put all the goodies the hospital sends you home with. I don't think my hospital bag will be full either, once it's packed. I need to pick up a few things and start getting that ready soon!
