How can Jackson be 23 months old (and one day)? That means in just one more month he will be 2! Every day he makes me so happy and so proud of all he's learning. My life is so much fuller with him.
He continues to learn new words- both recognition and speaking. His favorite thing to do is to count. Sometimes he just counts out loud to himself (won too tree bore bize six SSS Eet naan th); but most of the time he will count steps, toys, snacks, or the grommets on the floor. He also reads numbers everywhere we go (right ways up, upside down, and even backwards! Like when we were inside jiffy lube and he read the numbers on the glass door on the outside!). He knows most, possibly all, of his letters now where he can point to the correct letter when you say it. He can say a handful of letters and likes to read them out when he sees them (ex. S-o-n-y on the tv). He also can recognize his colors, but hasn't said those names yet. All of these I attribute to the Toddler teasers app. When I give him a new category (like adding in colors) he doesn't do well at first but quickly learns to match the items.
He has also learned a lot from Scout. He says J-A-C-K-S-O-N before Scout does when he sings his name. He also says "duck tack tack" and "nee nee" for neigh neigh. He has known cow and moo moo for awhile. He has also known dog and woo woo for woof woof. For awhile he's been saying "ee ah oh oo oo" and we thought at first he was doing vowel sounds, but figured out it was "e i e i o" from when Scout sings old McDonald.
On Feb. 4 for about a week and a half he got these welts on his legs. At the end it spread to his back and arms too. After a few days with no improvement I made an appointment with our new pediatrician. I like the pediatrician and the new office, so that is good. Apparently if welts appear for 3 or less weeks then it is "normal", so we didn't need any allergy testing done. Some Benadryl and a few more days and no more welts. Strange.
Quirks: Jack bites his fingernails, but only thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. Has been doing this excited screech lately. We remind him to use his inside voice because it is quite loud! Growth spurt! Getting so tall, but not gaining weight! His pants will be too short soon (18 month size) but they are still too big in the waist! I got him these clips that go through his belt loops to cinch up the waist and they work pretty well. Jackson reacts to the cold weather even if we're not outside for long. His cheeks get very dry and chapped quickly. But he loves being outside! We've had a few warm days recently so we spend some time in the backyard after nap time. If you roar at him he will roar back at you and it sounds like "roar" instead of just him making any noise he thinks of. When we pray he folds his hands and squeezes his eyes shut super tight. He also makes a duck face when we pray, not sure where he picked that up since we don't pooch our lips when we pray!
Silliness: I put the jumperoo together for Judah Vandegriff when I watched her and Jackson loves to climb in and out of it. Most of the time he can get out on his own but sometimes he says stuck so I'll help him. Still loves music- when toys play it or when it's on tv or in a movie. He'll stop dead I his tracks to listen to the music. He points like Vector from Despicable Me (direction and magnitude, oh yeah!), so funny! Matt will put up his boxing hands and tell Jackson he's gonna give him fisticuffs and Jackson will put up his hands and run around too. A bad habit he got from me- when he gets hurt playing with a toy he'll throw it and sometimes pick it up and throw it again. When I stub my toe or something I'll hit whatever object I hot it against. At least I don't cuss anyways so he can't pick that up from me! A specific example: he was carrying his piano and it bonked his head. He scrunched up like he was going to cry and whimpered a little. Then he threw the piano and it landed on the couch. He picked it up and threw it on the floor before coming to snuggle with me. Poor baby. Sugar doesn't seem to affect him much, which is good. He can have some snacks or dessert and not be awake for hours. I'm thankful for this and that we have only seen mild food allergies so far (blueberries). He loves when Daddy gets home and they can rough house a little. He immediately fusses when Daddy sits in his computer chair though because he knows that means playtime is over. Matt will usually play with him a little older the first time he fusses then he plays some video games to wind down. Jack has realized that my belly gets in the way of him sitting in my lap or being comfortable sometimes. He still finds ways to snuggle. He pats the belly and hugs the belly, but he still doesn't know what's coming. We read him books about new babies and siblings. I just hope he loves Daniel as much as he loves other babies we meet.
This month we put together Jackson's big boy bed! It has been so much fun for me to set up his big boy room and then Daniel's nursery. Since Jackson has been sleeping on the floor on his crib mattress since we moved here the transition to big boy bed wasn't difficult. He has loved his bed and hasn't fallen out or anything yet. Since he moves around a lot when he sleeps I was worried he might fall out even with the toddler rail. He generally sleeps 5-7 hour stretches now, which has been incredible! He'll either wake up (around 2-4 in the morning) for a couple hours then go back to sleep for a few more hours, or he settles back down for a few more hours after his long stretch. Either way, he's getting much better about sleeping. He usually crawls out of bed and comes find me when he wakes up instead of waiting for me to come to him.
I can't believe he will be 2 in one month and a big brother in 2 months! I am going to soak up this time with my first little baby while it's just him and I. I am so excited to have two boys and have another baby, but things will never be the same between Jackson and I. I already mourn for our relationship.
Jackson loving the jumperoo.
He looks so old! My little lumber Jack.
I can honestly say that the past 23 months have been the most fulfilling of my life. I have learned so much about myself, my relationship with Matt, my relationship with God, and about life in general. Jackson is such a wonderful little boy! I am seriously the most blessed Mumma. I love you, Jackson Matthew!
